The Fleet: 1979 Ferrari 208 GT4 Dino

chassis F106CL

The new 308 GT4 Dino was unveiled at the Paris Salon in October 1973. It was intended as a replacement for the popular 246 GT Dino, but with new 2+2 seating and increased power to compensate for the two main criticisms levelled at its predecessor. In both of these respects the 308 GT4 succeeded admirably; despite the improved and more comfortable accommodation the overall length of the car was increased by just 10cm whilst the new 8 cylinder engine produced 250bhp compared to the 190bhp of the 246 GT Dino.

The handling of the new car was also above reproach and to this day collectors of the marque for its driving characteristics praise the model. In 1975, due to the Italian tax breaks, a 1990cc version of the dohc V8 was introduced into the 308GT4 car, producing the 208GT4. An under square engine, it produced 170bhp. Around 840 examples were produced until 1980
